Get To Know San Angelo

San Angelo is the Pearl of the Conchos, located in the heart of Concho Valley, a West Texas region.  The city was built around Fort Concho, dating back to the mid-1800s to protect the early frontier. It also is home to San Angelo College, one of West Texas’s first institutes of higher education.

Fort Concho is a great first stop, giving you a fascinating view of how soldiers lived back in the day. Most of these buildings are of the original stone, giving them incredible historical significance.

For a different side of history, visit Miss Hattie’s Bordello Museum. From 1902, it operated as one of the more infamous brothers for a 50-year period until shut down by the Texas Rangers. These days, you can relive the history by touring the site and playing poker around period furniture, making this building feel like a time machine.

Of course, if you are looking for a bit more nightlife, check out the Whiskey River Saloon, Warehouse 150, or The Tilted Mug. Those who enjoy live music (or becoming live music through karaoke) will find themselves in a great atmosphere to meet up with friends.

While touring the town, take a moment to appreciate some historical murals of San Angelo. Local walking tours will give you a glimpse into another piece of history dating back to the 1940s.

For another form of inspiration, check out the Chicken Farm Art Center. This is a centerpiece of the West Texas art community. They have 15 resident artist studios, a restaurant, and a Bed and Breakfast if you need a place to stay.

When you finish the tour, stop by some local restaurants like Twisted Root, the Peasant Village Restaurant, and Armentas. Touring San Angelo gives you an opportunity to see history uniquely preserved across numerous eras.
