Get To Know Odessa

Odessa, a part of Midland County, isn’t the biggest city in Texas. Regardless, there’s a certain charm to Odessa you can’t get elsewhere. As George H. W. Bush said, “At Odessa, we become Texans and proud of it.” It was also the home of First Lady Barbara Bush in 1948.

Odessa is a major city, supporting a vibrant nightlife with many great restaurants. Rosa’s Cafe & Tortilla Factory, the White House Meat Market, and the Barn Door & Pecos Depot are just a few examples. For some more active activities, you’ll find hatchet throwing (shout-out to Axeholics), escape rooms, and a handful of amusement parks.

Odessa’s claim to fame comes from the deep history it supports. The Presidential Museum and Leadership Library shows you a brief history of the presidents of the Republic of Texas. You can even find a close replica of the Oval Office, which gives you a “walking amongst giants” feeling.

The Historic White-Pool House is one of the oldest structures in Odessa, dating back to the 1800s. For those inspired by history, you’ll find some interesting and insightful antiques giving you a look into how people lived in the past.

Another piece of history you can visit is the Chris Kyle “American Sniper” memorial. The plaque and statue you see are a memorial to the legendary sniper and fallen soldier.

For a more unusual attraction, Odessa has a replica of Stonehenge. Despite it being quite a distance from the original European attraction, it is a nice tribute worth looking at. Plus, you’ll find that the Odessa version of this attraction is less muggy, which might be preferable to those who dislike humid weather.

If you are looking for some culture, you can also make a stop at the Ellen Noel Art Museum. There, you can find art and photography from the past several generations. Odessa has a bit of something for everyone.
