Get To Know Amarillo

Amarillo, known as the “Yellow Rose of Texas,” takes this nickname from the Spanish word for yellow. It’s known for a combination of unique features. Its hybrid aircraft assembly plant names it “Rotor City, USA.” Its nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility is called “Bomb City.” Amarillo has a deep history for all explorers who want to enjoy the Yellow City.

Outside of nicknames, you’ll find a lot of inspiration from the western side of life. The Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West is a heritage attraction that offers horseback riding and other attractions. To experience a small piece of the west, you can check this out.

The other legendary attraction in Amarillo is the Cadillac Ranch, which features ten graffiti-covered Cadillacs buried halfway into the ground. Stanley Marsh III, the millionaire brainchild of the attraction, buried these cars from 1948 to 1963. Despite being a nightmare scenario for people who prefer to work on these cars, it’s still a neat thing to look at.

A less traumatic experience for car buffs will be Bill’s Backyard Classics, a specialty museum for car buffs. Here, you’ll find a variety of beautiful vehicles, including Cadillacs that aren’t buried underground.

For people who prefer the “Rotor City” side of Amarillo, check out the Texas Air & Space Museum. There are many airplanes, with volunteers guiding you around and telling you the history behind each one.

Amarillo's beef and ranching side supports many awesome steak and barbecue restaurants when you are done with that. The Big Texan Steak Ranch can be found nearby on Interstate 40. You’ll also find several other restaurants that fit the bill: like the Coyote Bluff Café and Tyler’s Barbeque.

Amarillo is a beautiful city, especially if you are one of those who appreciate that classic Texan charm.
